Marquez apologizes to Raquiza girl’s kin

The stepfather of Vandolph Quizon, Parañaque City Mayor Joey Marquez, yesterday publicly apologized to the family of the young comedian’s girlfriend who succumbed Wednesday to injuries sustained in a car accident with the child actor.

"I am personally apologizing to the family of Desiree Raquiza. I thank her family for being very, very understanding. They are not blaming anybody for the incident," said Marquez.

Marquez made the apology amid reports that 17-year-old Quizon or his parents could be held liable for the death of Raquiza, who was of the same age as the actor.

Quizon was driving the Ford F-150 van when it collided with a delivery truck in Pozurrubio, Pangasinan. Quizon had no driver’s license.

"I do not think the family will file a case based on what I am seeing with them," said the city mayor. Marquez owns the van, which he said Quizon took without his permission.

Quizon and Raquiza were classmates at the Colegio de San Agustin in Makati.

Marquez said the bigger problem is how to break the news to Quizon that his girlfriend is already dead. Quizon is reportedly beginning to stir after being comatose for the last two weeks. – Jose Aravilla
