Ex-Manila councilor dies

Former Manila Councilor Karlo Butiong of Lian, Batangas and San Andres, Manila, succumbed to massive heart attack last Sunday, Sept, 1. He was 42.

Butlong was the Manila City Council’s majority floor leader in 1992. When he did not run for reelection in 1995, he was appointed administrator of the Intramuros Administration (IA) by then President Fidel Ramos. Later on he formed a law firm with Paulino Ejercito and Arthur Yap as partners.

He is survived by his mother, Luz; children Karlene and Matt, brother Ronald, sister-in-law Melissa, niece Andrea, and nephew Rafael. His remains lie in state at the family residence at no. 1607 Dagonoy st., San Andres, Manila.

A neurological service is scheduled to be held at the session hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod from 10 am to 2 pm before the Interment on Thursday, according to Vice Mayor and Presiding Officer Danilo Lacuna.

Interment will be at the Manila South Cemetery at 2 p.m.
