Gov't worker shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - A Lapu-Lapu City Hall employee was shot dead on Mantawi Road in Sitio Langub, Barangay Poblacion noontime on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Shirali Jumao-as, 42, who is a resident at PALS Apartment on Mangubat Street in the said barangay.

He was known to be presently working under the City Administrator's Office Department as Admin Aide-IV.

Initial investigation was conducted by Police Officers John Carlo Jocutan, Manolito Abellanosa and Jearson Alparito of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office - Homicide Section.

Jocutan reported that the victim was paying his bills in Mactan Electronic Company on Sangi Road around 12:20 p.m.

While riding his a blue Honda Wave motorcycle (9275 GD) on his way home, two unidentified suspects who were also onboard a motorcycle, sped up and overtook Jumao-as upon reaching Mantawi road.

At that moment, one of the suspects suddenly pulled an unidentified firearm and shot Jumao-as several times that resulted to his untimely death while the suspects fled away from the crime scene.

Police Inspector Wilbert Parilla of Police Station 2 responded to the shooting incident along with Special Weapon and Tactics Team.

The victim sustained two gunshot wounds in the abdomen and one  in the left chest and left shoulder, according to the Red Cross personnel.

Police authorities recovered five empty shells believed to be from a .45 cal. pistol.

The victim was rushed in Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.  (FREEMAN)
