Caretakers steal pigs from employers

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were accused of stealing six pigs from a container yard at the Reclamation Area in barangay Subangdaku Wednesday evening.

Theft charges are now being prepared against Ariel Panilagao and Benji Panilagao, both from Davao City.

The two men had been taking care of pigs bought from Mindanao for the past four years.

The two caretakers are cousins and had been working from Victor Noval and Reynaldo Soquiño Jr. Both owners had bought pigs from Mindanao, which arrived in Cebu on June 23.

On Wednesday at around 7 p.m., the two men pulled out 6 pigs from the 97 placed inside a container van.

June Dalaota of Baysa Security Agency, who was detailed at the area when the incident took place, said he saw the two men taking the pigs away from the container van and then asked where they were taking the pigs.

He said the two men told him the owner knew about it and will be taking out the rest from the container van the following morning.

The live pigs were loaded into a dump truck.

However, when the owners arrived the following day, both were surprised when the security guards asked them when are they pulling out the rest of the pigs.

The owners were surprised and immediately called the caretakers through cellular phone but they never got a reply.

SPO3 Marcos Noval Jr., investigator of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) in Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) said the security guard failed to jot down the plate number of the vehicle and name of the truck driver.  (FREEMAN)
