Women warned about cybersex, child porn

Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - City Councilor Nenita Layese, head of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), and lawyer Joann Saniel Amit of the Children Legal Bureau yesterday again warned women against the evils of cybersex and child pornography.

Amit and Layese spoke before 2,500 women representing more than one hundred women organizations in the city during the closing ceremony of the Women’s Month at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Amit lamented that it is the parents themselves who engage their children in cybersex due to poverty, mentioning a case in Cordova town where parents were jailed for forcing their children to pose nude in the internet.

Layese said cybersex won’t have a chance to take root in Mandaue the fact that IACAT is active in the barangays.

The city alone has more than 100 women barangay-based organizations that offer livelihood programs as a deterrent to cybersex, she said.

Mayor Jonas Cortes who also joined yesterday’s activity said women play a big role in nation building and that the city has introduced programs that define women.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale for her part said the authorities keep their eyes peeled for any sign of cybersex operation in the province. (FREEMAN)
