Warning signs go up at landslide-prone areas in Naga

CEBU, Philippines - The Naga City government has started putting up warning signs at areas that are prone to landslides.

Engr. Ramil Hilado, city’s environment and pollution control officer, yesterday said warning signs have been placed in sitios Pangpang, Tayad-tayad, and Balico in barangay Cantao-an.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-7) has declared the 150-meter radius in sitio Pangilatan in barangay Cantao-an as “no habitation” zone after a rock rolled down a hill killing a couple recently.

But Hilado said the city government cannot compel residents to evacuate for lack of a law govern such.

According to Hilado, the city government is doing everything to protect residents.

The 28 barangays in the city were also encouraged to be prepared for disasters.

Hilado said the barangays should have their own warning and alarm system, emergency response, rescue, and medical teams and put up their evacuation centers. (FREEMAN)
