Quiño declares anew war vs. drugs, others

CEBU, Philippines - Compostela town Mayor Joel Quiño the other day renewed his declaration of an all-out war against illegal drugs, gang wars, vandalism, and all forms of criminality involving guns-for-hire.

Quiño said it is a big challenge for the police in the town to stop all these threats to the peace and order in the town.

The problem concerning illegal drugs needs immediate attention.

“Nabalaka kita sa dakong hulga sa kaugmaon sa atong mga kabataan kon dili gayud masanta ang mga tawo nga nalambigit sa pagpayuhot sa gidiling drugas,” Quiño said.

He had met with barangay officials to inform them that the peace and order in the town is always under threat, especially with the series of killings that happened recently.

The mayor said that based on the initial investigation by the police, the persons responsible for the killings were professional killers.

Vice Mayor Mary Antonette Dangoy said she knows that people agree with her that each and everyone of them no longer feels safe anymore in the streets.

“Blood has been spilled in our beloved town,” she said.

The vice mayor said the town has been wounded because of the killings of former councilor and mayor Joselito Reynes, Marito Yraola, husband of barangay captain Lilian Yraola of Tamiao and three others.

“No one has been spared of this hurt, whether you are in the administration or in the opposition side, whether in politics or not. Sa sitwasyon nato karon, walay nidaug puro gyud ta tanan pilde,” Dangoy said.
