MANILA, Philippines – Identify the sculptor whose works appear below.
This artist is acclaimed for having the ability to transform three of the hardest materials — glass, steel and stone — into fluid works of art. Her works appear in public spaces, airports, hotels, showrooms and private collections here and abroad.
She studied at the University of the Philippines, Accademia Italiana in Rome, and the Pratt Graphics Center in New York. As a child, she was fascinated by the Japanese artform of origami. As an artist she shifted from serigraphy to metal, and since the 1990s glass has been her main medium.
When asked in an interview what she aims to communicate with her creations, she said, “When I create, I want to give a soothing feeling, beginning with myself, because I believe that what the work will make me feel will be imparted to the viewers. My works are about good things and good feelings — benevolent forces. Those are the images that came about, having those thoughts about my soul’s journey and how each person should nurture his soul.”
