New antibiotic for skin infections

MANILA, Philippines - In the 1950s, Leo Pharma discovered a completely new antibiotic substance, derived from the fungus Fusidium coccineum, that treats bacterial infections.  Fusidic acid was thus born, and Fucidin was then launched a few years later. Fucidin has been treating Filipinos’ skin conditions for the past 30 years. Fusidic acid (Fucidin) is a powerful antibiotic clinically proven to be effective against bacterial skin infections like infected wounds, boils, impetigo, abscesses, and infected eczema. It penetrates both intact and damaged skin deeply, reaching its deepest layer. It’s fast-acting, works on the infection two minutes upon application, and reaches the deepest layer of the skin in 30 minutes. Fucidin cream is quickly absorbed into skin, making it ideal for exposed parts of the body like the face and hands, while Fucidin ointment stays on the skin surface longer, making it ideal for dry, scaly or cracked lesions. Fucidin can now be bought over the counter at Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores nationwide.
