MANILA, Philippines - Parents, teachers, and educators always strive to find new and updated ways to guide a child towards a successful future. In view of this, the Galileo Enrichment Learning Program recently held a two-day workshop titled “Giving Children the Winning Edge.”
Dr. Queena Lee-Chua challenged the participants to use the Eastern and Western influences to strengthen the school curriculum — an example of which is to incorporate music and art in science and math instruction.
Maribel Sison-Dionisio talked about how to build a winning attitude that will continually motivate a child. She stressed that studying does not only involve the child but also the parents who provide the encouragement and support. She also showed a different side of discipline and why children should not be scared of it.
On the other hand, Prof. Cecilia Manikan discussed the importance of understanding the characteristics of a 21st -century learner. Children nowadays have different needs, compared to when adults were children themselves 20 to 30 years ago.
Maricar De Ocampo spoke about ways and measures to pinpoint a child’s learning potential through everyday activities and milestones.
CNN Hero Efren Peñaflorida talked about creating social consciousness in a child. All children should be aware of what the world is going through, so that they will feel the responsibility of using their capabilities as a positive contribution to the country.
Rowena J. Matti, CEO for the Galileo Enrichment Learning Program, shared the advantages of enrichment education to supplement the current curriculum of schools. She discussed how enrichment programs tap into the individual needs of a child and target them through individualized activities so that a child will be able to cope with the current school level that he/she is in.
