A running commentary on sun protection

MANILA, Philippines - At the recently-concluded “Chase the Sun: The Neutrogena Run” in Bonifacio Global City, enthusiastic runners of all ages participated in the 3k, 5k, 10k, and 15k races. Neutrogena, the skincare brand most recommended by dermatologists, spearheaded this event and ensured that each runner was given long-lasting UVA & UVB protection during the race.

Before the gun start of each race category, runners were given free samples of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ to keep them protected from the sun’s harmful UVA & UVB rays.

“We put together this event to encourage runners to include the use of sun screen as part of their running routine. While running is a great activity to keep the body healthy, let’s not forget to keep our skin healthy and protected as well,” explains Gabby Roxas, Neutrogena brand manager. “Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer product line provides runners with superior sun protection with its patented Helioplex technology, developed to keep burning UVB rays and cancer-causing UVA rays from penetrating the skin.”

Jaymie Pizarro, also known as the Bull Runner in the ever-growing running community, was the face of the Neutrogena Run. She too joined the race and ran alongside the 10k runners. “We are very happy with Neutrogena’s support in promoting outdoor sports, particularly running. The Neutrogena race was light and fun, and sent out the message that running is a sport that anyone can try,” says Pizarro.

The top three finishers in the 15-kilometer women’s division were Maricel Maquilan, Peris Chepkech Poywo, and Mila Paje, while Anthony Ilosgei, Reynaldo Delos Reyes, and Mathieu O’ Halloran won the top spots for the men’s division. In the 10-kilometer women’s division, Luisa Raterta, Susan Jemutai, and Judy Joy Pasaporte garnered the top three spots, and for the men’s division, Willy Tanui, Abraham Missos, and Rafael Poliquit emerged as the top three runners. Top finishers from each of the four race categories were also awarded special prizes from Neutrogena and participating Johnson & Johnson brands: Listerine, Carefree, and Johnson’s Body Care.

After the race, runners and their families enjoyed fun activities and soothing treats (such as trampolines and massages) in activity booths prepared by Neutrogena, Carefree, Modess, Listerine, and Johnson’s Body Care. Everyone also received Johnson & Johnson lootbags and Chase the Sun finisher’s shirts made exclusively by Team Manila.

“Neutrogena pulled out all the stops with the loaded lootbags, awesome finishers’ shirt, and all the wonderful post race activities. It was a fun event that had everyone going home with tons of freebies in their hands and a lot of happy memories,” adds Pizzaro.

Other winners were Michelle De Vera, Meldith Almeda, Michelle Sibunghanoy together with Melvin Guarte, Jonathan Cheboi and Ferdinand Corpuz for the five-kilometer distance, while Serenata Saluan, Nhea Ann Barcena, Mary Ann Dela Cruz, Michael Bacong, Wenlie Maulas, and Willy Rotich topped the three-kilometer race category.
