MANILA, Philippines - Talk N’ Text center Ali Peek initially visited chiropractor Dr. Anton Cancio complaining of middle and lower back pain for two weeks, which was affecting his game. He had some difficulty running up and down the court due to his back pains and muscle spasms. At the end of his practices, his back was a lot worse. After a couple of chiropractic treatments, Ali states that, “It was easier to move around, didn’t take as long to warm up my back because it was looser, and I loosened up faster after getting the back adjustment. I noticed that I didn’t have pain in the lower back when getting up and down the court.”
After the treatments, Ali recommended chiropractic treatment to his family and friends. Compared to other forms of therapy Ali feels that “having his spine cracked (adjusted) is a lot better and a lot safer when done by a chiropractor, like Dr. Cancio, who can spot problem areas when you walk through the door.”
Ali is just one of the many patients Dr. Cancio has treated.
Another patient was a 15-year-old junior pro-golfer who complained of low back pain and stiffness. Spinal examination revealed an imbalance in her pelvis and joint fixations along her spine. After correcting her spine, she noticed immediate relief and increased range of motion. Two days later, she played golf and her coach was amazed as to how well she was hitting the balls.
“This is one example of a case in which chiropractic is proven safe and effective for children” says Dr. Anton Cancio. “It is important for parents to realize that chiropractic care at a young age is not only safe, but also has a tremendous impact on their child’s developing spine.”
A 51-year-old patient was complaining of chronic neck pain and tightness, and headaches for the past eight to nine years. “A week prior to his visit to my clinic, his headaches were intense,” relates Cancio. “Looking up was difficult for him to do. His MRI and x-ray reports indicated multiple level cervical spondylosis (i.e. arthritis of the spine) and loss of the normal cervical spine curvature with associated muscle spasms. Two doctors recommended him for neck surgery.”
After one treatment at the clinic of Dr. Cancio, his headaches went away. Although he still has neck discomfort, he now has better movement of his neck in all directions; especially looking up is now easier to do. Still undergoing treatment, he appreciates the relief that he gets from his spinal adjustments.
“Now, when I get a haircut, I can lift my head up on its own after the wash,” he says. “Before I had to use my hand to help me raise my head.”
“It is important for patients to be very careful in seeking their chiropractors,” stresses Dr. Cancio. “The spinal column is a very delicate structure. It protects our spinal cord and the brain. It only takes one wrong manipulation to suffer from spinal trauma and permanent damage. But when done by a real chiropractor with the proper education and training, the risk of injury is very minimal and is highly effective for many musculoskeletal conditions.”
