Bench Fix Salon gives free cuts to less-fortunate kids

MANILA, Philippines - Bench Fix Salon recently teamed up with Unang Hakbang Foundation to provide free hair services for children from less-fortunate communities.

Bench Fix Salon is now considered a top innovator and trendsetter in the salon industry. With a total of 62 branches open nationwide, not only does Bench Fix Salon provide its clients high-quality hairdressing, it also strives to make a greater impact on society. Fix Salon exceeds expectations in giving back to communities because the team behind it builds relations with the people they encounter, and considers clients a part of their growing family as well.

Unang Hakbang Foundation or UHF was established in 2003 by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. It is a social welfare agency that caters to promoting services to help children and youth on the streets.

There are two basic programs that UHF offers, namely Aral Kalinga and Buhay Kalinga. For Aral Kalinga, UHF helps keep children in school. The activities they offer include basic literacy classes and one-on-one tutorials, special classes in reading and math, stipends and prizes for improvement in school performance, and assistance in preparing for the Accreditation and Equivalency Examination. On the other hand, Buhay Kalinga focuses on the development of the attitude and interests of the youth. This also includes building appreciation for others, an attitude of caring, awareness of self-worth, and confidence in one’s abilities and skills. Activities under this program include tutoring, organizing medical assistance and referrals, and taking basic computer literacy classes.

Bench Fix Salon partnered with Unang Hakbang Foundation mainly because of the latter’s vision to create and produce an empowering community for the growth of children and the youth. By helping make the lives of these children better, they help create a better community for the future. In line with Fix Salon’s being an innovator in the Philippine community, working with Unang Hakbang Foundation is a big step towards the growth of a productive community. The activity ended up being a memorable and rewarding experience for both the stylists and kids. It definitely makes the cut in redefining Bench Fix Salon as an innovator in society.
