How important is power sleep?

Ernie Lopez, president and CEO of ABS-CBN Publishing: “Ask any athlete and they’ll tell you that the body needs to rebuild and sleep is the rebuilding phase.”

MANILA, Philippines - Three prominent and successful personalities attest to the power of a good night’s rest in pulling off their extremely hectic lifestyles. They agree that getting quality beds and pillows by Tempur is the first step towards achieving good sleep.

Ernie Lopez: Restoration and recovery

Ernesto Miguel “Ernie” Lopez is one busy guy. As president and CEO of ABS-CBN Publishing, he has one of the most demanding jobs, to say the least. Yet this does not distract him from performing his other roles with as much zeal — that of being a hands-on dad, a passionate athlete, and a servant of God who finds time to share his faith among his friends.

While his day often runs like clockwork, he makes sure to have time to take his three kids to school every day and work out with friends. The day winds down with a Bible study and dinner with his son. By 11 p.m., Lopez is ready to call it a night.

“I’m a heavy sleeper; it’s funny but I call myself a Sleep Nazi — I’m very strict with bedtime, even with the kids,” he says.

Ernie’s discipline as an athlete is perhaps one of the reasons he cherishes his sleep time so much. In fact, he says his whole day is ruined if he doesn’t get enough of it.

“Ask any athlete and they’ll tell you that the body needs to recover and rebuild and sleep is the rebuilding phase,” he says. “I believe that proper sleep provides recovery and strength.”

For him, sleeping has to be on a Tempur bed, mattress and pillow. He even has the Tempur bedframe, which has been with him for over 15 years, to go with his California King mattress. Even his kids sleep better and longer on Tempur, he says. “Tempur is already a part of my life and I’m happy with it.”

He’s also a fan of Tempur’s sleep mask. “It is the best! I never leave home without it, like when I ride a bus to Cam Sur for marathons and such.”

Chef Fernando Aracama: That feeling of being cradled

One of chef Fernando “Ferns” Aracama’s guilty pleasures has nothing to do with food at all. “If it were up to me, I would go home and watch the sunset,” says Ferns, who was one of the youngest to be named executive chef at 25. He now runs the eponymous Filipino-themed restaurant Aracama, among other establishments.

Chef Ferns says getting at least eight hours of sleep is a priority that explains his meticulous attention to detail when it comes to his choice of bed.

“I’m very glad that I can afford Tempur mattresses,” he says. “I’m the type of a person who looks forward to my own time, to my quiet time, and Tempur is really a gift to myself more than anything.

“That feeling of being cradled is one thing that I really look forward to,” he continues. “It’s one-of-a-kind. It’s not found in many places. I travel a lot. I sleep in many hotel beds. But it’s always about coming back home. Whatever tiredness or exhaustion I’ve had from traveling or from working is going to be taken care of by the quality of sleep I get from Tempur.”

Chef Ferns also no longer complains about a stiff neck and pinched nerves in the four years that he has been using Tempur products. “It is my bed that gets me this restful and perfectly safe place to be in — in my own sanctuary — and I’m so glad that it is in my system. I really appreciate the product for the benefits I get. It’s what it said it would be. It delivered what it promised, and I had no doubt that it would.”

Chat Fores: A good night’s sleep is the first step to optimum health

The founder behind the Chat Fores Design Studio, Chat Fores has lent her unique sense of style and flair to some of the country’s iconic properties: Trump Manila of Century Properties, Gramercy, Novotel, and international labels like Armani and Versace.

When choosing materials for her designs, brands do not really matter to her because she believes things need not be expensive to look good. But she also believes that expensive things, of course, will always give superior quality and value.

This same philosophy also goes for her choice of bed, which she invests in to get a better sleep after working long hours on a project.

“Sleep is a silent healer because if I feel like I’m going to get sick, I sleep and I get better,” she shares. “Tempur is like body therapy for me. What I love about it is it follows the contour of my body.”

Fores attributes her and her family’s quality of sleep to Tempur products. Her kids specifically use Tempur-pedic pillows and mattresses because her son, Rocco, has sensitive skin, while daughter Patrice has slight rhinitis. “I cannot have them use other pillows and mattresses that don’t have the qualities that Tempur has. With Tempur, it’s anti-bacterial and there are no bed bugs.”

Today, her family is loyal to Tempur. They even bring Tempur travel pillows during trips and keep some in the car.

“Tempur is worth it when you think about the long-term benefits,” she says. “I have been using mine for seven years.”

As a designer, Fores believes there are three things in your house you should invest in: the bed, sofa, and bathroom. Thus, she recommends only Tempur for the bed. “A good night’s sleep is the first step to optimum health.”

From NASA to your bedroom

It was in the 1970s that NASA developed a pressure-absorbing material to help cushion and support astronauts during liftoff. Scientists working at what would become Tempur’s production facilities perfected this material for use in sleep products. Today, it is the only mattress and pillow brand licensed by the US Space Foundation to use the Certi?ed Technology Seal.

Tempur has changed the way people sleep and relax with its revolutionary products made from visco-elastic, a pressure-relieving and temperature-sensitive material that adapts and responds to every body shape and sleeping position, weight and temperature.

Now in its 10th year in the Philippines, Tempur continues to give users the best and most restful sleep.

Tempur is exclusively distributed in the country by Focus Global, Inc.
