Fashion inspired by the creative potential of a makeup palette

One thing I like about Australian makeup brand BYS is that their local partner, iFace, Inc., supports young Filipino fashion designers, and showcases them in BYS Fashion Week, an annual event that started last year.

This year’s BYS Fashion Week was themed "The Filipino Palette: Same Same But Different,” because it was inspired by the multifaceted nature of a makeup palette — a beauty tool that can yield countless looks and expressions — and therefore captures the essence of creativity.

“This is a brand that connects with its diverse, discerning audience,” says Angie Goyena, president of iFace, Inc.  “This year’s celebration is a soaring tribute to that.”

BYS Fashion Week 2023 was held from October 5 to 8 at different venues around BGC, and introduced new names, as well as invited some back from last year. Day 1 opened with Rafa Worldwide, Antonina, Ha.mu, and Randolf Clothing. On Day 2, the focus was on Neric Beltran and Chris Nick. Day 3 highlighted Vin Orias and Cheetah Rivera, while Vania Romoff returned to the runway to close BYS Fashion Week on Day 4.

The fashion models all sported beauty looks orchestrated by BYS Philippines’ resident makeup artist, Gery Penaso, who said his talented team set no limits on their creativity.

I could say the same about the fashion designers, who showed that the Filipino palette is so diverse that it ranges from whimsical to elegant, monochrome to colorful, and timeless to futuristic, but it’s always imaginative and surprising.
