May 6 heat index: 7 areas under ‘danger’ level, says PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines — Seven areas across the Philippines are under the “danger” heat index level, the state weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday, May 5, warning of scorching temperatures.
In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said heat index values in these areas may range from 42°C to 43°C.
On Wednesday, May 6, Tacloban City in Leyte is expected to record the highest heat index at 45°C.
Other areas under the “danger” level include:
- Bacnotan, La Union – 42°C
- Aparri, Cagayan – 42°C
- Cuyo, Palawan – 43°C
- Virac (Synop), Catanduanes – 42°C
- Iloilo City, Iloilo – 42°C
- La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental – 43°C
Meanwhile, most areas across the country are under the “extreme caution” classification, with heat index values ranging from 33°C to 41°C.
In Metro Manila, readings from the PAGASA Science Garden in Quezon City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City are also under the “extreme caution” classification.
The PAGASA Science Garden is expected to record a heat index of 39°C on Wednesday, while NAIA is forecast to reach 41°C.
