MANILA, Philippines — Super Typhoon Champi has maintained its strength as it moves closer to the country, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its weather forecast on Tuesday, October 20, PAGASA said Champi was estimated to be 1,605 kilometers east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 240 kph.

Champi is moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.

According to PAGASA, Champi's trough may bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to Catanduanes, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.

PAGASA warned residents of these areas of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.

Palawan may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

The easterlies may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
