Pilandok to reenter PAR

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Krovanh, formerly known as Pilandok, is expected to reenter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) tomorrow morning or early afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, Krovanh was located 830 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon, packing winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kph.

It was moving southeastward at 25 kph over the coastal waters of Okinawa, Japan, state meteorologists said.

“Once inside PAR, the tropical cyclone will be given its former local name Pilandok,” PAGASA said. “While moving eastward over the Philippine Sea, it will shift northeastward and exit PAR by Monday before turning northward toward southern Japan.”

PAGASA said Pilandok will maintain its tropical storm category until Monday before weakening into a tropical depression on Tuesday.

While landfall and direct weather or sea effects remain unlikely, the state weather bureau said the storm may enhance the southwest monsoon in the next few days.

Occasional rains brought by the southwest monsoon will be experienced in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.

The Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Abra and Benguet will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

The southwest monsoon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms to the rest of Luzon and the Visayas.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected in Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms.
