Grade 9 student stabbed outside Negros Occidental school

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A Grade 9 student of Julio Ledesma National High School (JLNHS) in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, is being treated at a medical facility after he was stabbed on Tuesday outside the school premises, allegedly by a Grade 10 student.
The victim and the suspect are both 17 years old.
The stabbing occurred a day after the deadly shooting incident in Tacloban City, also involving schoolchildren.
Initial investigation showed that the victim sustained an injury in his lower right abdomen.
The suspect, a Grade 10 student, was immediately arrested by the police during a pursuit operation, according to regional police spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong.
Authorities recovered the bladed weapon allegedly used in the incident.
Based on initial investigation, the incident stemmed from an old personal grudge.
Malong said they received reports that a group of young people allegedly attempted to confront individuals they considered rivals when the stabbing occurred.
In a statement, the JLNHS administration emphasized that the stabbing incident occurred outside the school premises.
Before the incident, the victim had informed his class adviser about a perceived threat.
In response, the adviser instructed him not to leave the school campus while efforts were being made to contact the student’s parent or guardian.
However, the victim-student left campus against the adviser’s instructions.
