Sandigan bars Chiz from leaving Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan has barred former Senate president Francis Escudero and businessman Maynard Ngu from leaving the country as they are under investigation for alleged plunder, graft and bribery.
The anti-graft court’s Sixth Division issued a precautionary hold departure order against them after holding a closed-door hearing yesterday on the Office of the Ombudsman’s request to prohibit them from leaving the country.
Ngu is accused of contributing P30 million to Escuero’s campaign in the 2022 general elections.
In the flood control controversy, Escudero allegedly received a 20-percent cut of allocations for infrastructure projects worth P1.4 billion, with P280 million in kickbacks delivered to Ngu.
The anti-graft court ordered the Bureau of Immigration to hold their departure from the Philippines and include their names in its hold departure list.
