Metro Manila, other areas hit danger-level heat index

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and several parts of the country were under “danger” level heat index yesterday, the state weather bureau said.

Based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s bulletin, the heat index at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City reached 42 degrees Celsius.

Dagupan City, Puerto Princesa City and Pangasinan reached the highest at 46 degrees Celsius.

They were followed by Cavite City at 45 degrees Celsius, along with Butuan, Iloilo, San Jose in Occidental Mindoro and Aborlan and Cuyo in Palawan at 43 degrees Celsius.

Bacnotan in La Union, Aparri in Cagayan, Baler in Aurora, Iba in Zambales, Subic Bay in Olongapo City, Catarman in Northern Samar and Zamboanga City reached 42 degrees Celsius.

A “danger level” heat index ranges from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius, and human exposure at this temperature range with continued activity may result in heat stroke.
