Zaldy Co detained in Prague — Marcos

Ian Laqui - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 10:11 p.m.) — Fugitive lawmaker Zaldy Co has been detained in Prague, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said.

In a social media post on Thursday, April 16, Marcos said Co was apprehended in Prague after crossing into the Czech Republic without proper documentation.

He is now in the custody of Czech authorities, according to Marcos.

"We are in close coordination with the Czech government to ensure that all legal processes are followed and to arrange for his return to the Philippines at the soonest possible time," Marcos said.

"We will keep the public informed as developments unfold," he added.

Zaldy Co has been in hiding since mid-2025, even before the probe into the alleged anomalous flood control projects started.

In November 2025, the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant of arrest against Co over the P289.5-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro, specifically the construction of a road dike along the Mag-asawang Tubig River.

An Interpol Blue Notice has also been issued against him since November, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
