MANILA, Philippines — The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has announced a four-day unilateral ceasefire for its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), to coincide with the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The order, issued by the CPP central committee on Dec. 15, will take effect from Dec. 25 to 26, 2025 and again from Dec. 31, 2025 to Jan. 1, 2026.
During these periods, NPA units are directed to halt offensive military operations, according to CPP Central Committee information officer Marco Valbuena.
Despite the ceasefire, the CPP said NPA forces would remain on alert and adopt a defensive posture, citing continued military operations by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The group instructed its fighters to work closely with local communities and to be prepared to move or respond if they perceive threats during the ceasefire period.
