Angara hits claim linking late dad to budget insertion

MANILA, Philippines — Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Friday slammed claims linking his late father, former Senate president Edgardo Angara, to a supposed network accused of facilitating budget insertions for kickbacks, dubbed the “Angara 5” by an anonymous source.
“We can take demolition jobs, that’s part of being in politics, but don’t involve the dead because they can’t answer anymore,” Angara said on X.
He called the allegations baseless and criticized efforts to drag his late father into the controversy.
The supposed network reportedly includes Department of Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Faye Condez De Sagon, former DepEd undersecretary Trygve Olaivar, former budget secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Budget Undersecretary Wilford Wong and Ronald Ang.
Angara pointed out that of the five, only Olaivar had worked under the DepEd, highlighting the lack of a coherent connection among those named.
The claims sought to tie the alleged network to the years of the late senator’s tenure.
