MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) yesterday held the first-ever Classroom Summit in Pampanga to address the backlog of 165,000 classrooms nationwide.

At the summit, stakeholders reviewed classroom prototypes, joined technical breakout sessions and discussed construction capacity ahead of the DepEd’s 2026 infrastructure rollout.

Topics during breakout sessions include contractor accreditation, climate-resilient designs, financing options and contract implementation.

Exhibits showcased a standard DepEd classroom and a disaster-ready temporary learning space that can be deployed after typhoons and earthquakes.

The DepEd launched the Strategic Resource Inventory for Deployment Efficiency dashboard, a platform that combines enrollment, staffing and infrastructure data to help regional and division offices make more grounded decisions on where classrooms and personnel are urgently needed.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the event aims to break patterns holding back the system and reinforce President Marcos’ education agenda.

DepEd Undersecretary Peter Corvera led the pledge of commitment for better procurement processes.
