New Aussie envoy pays courtesy call on PCG

MANILA, Philippines —  Newly appointed Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown assured the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) of his country’s continued support to strengthen the capability of the maritime agency.

In a statement, the PCG said Innes-Brown visited the PCG national headquarters on Saturday and was welcomed by Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan.

During the meeting, the officials reaffirmed the partnership between the two countries particularly on the aspect of advancing maritime safety, security and environmental protection.

They also discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation, including joint initiatives, training and capability development.

The Australian official also expressed his government’s support for the PCG’s modernization programs to enhance the readiness and professionalism of its personnel.

For his part, Admiral Gavan said they recognized Australia’s valuable support to the PCG.

They both expressed their commitment to pursue closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
