MANILA, Philippines — The number of registrants for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) has exceeded two million in just 10 days, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday.

From Aug. 1 to 9, the Comelec has processed a total of 2,136,230 applications for voter registration.

Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Rizal) posted the highest number of applicants with 265,957 followed by Central Luzon with 220,650 and Bicol Region with 169,378.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia declared the 10-day voter registration for the BSKE “historical” and highly successful.

Garcia added that nationwide registration was high despite the likelihood that the BSKE will be rescheduled to November 2026 from December 2025.

President Marcos has announced that he will sign the proposed bill extending the term of incumbent barangay and SK officials and will thereby result in the postponement of the BSKE elections.

With the impending postponement, the Comelec approved a resolution to delete the date “Dec. 1, 2025” in all accountable forms and non-accountable forms to be used for the BSKE.

“This adjustment would help ensure that the forms already produced may still be utilized, regardless of whether the electoral activity proceeds in December 2025 or in November 2026,” the commission said.

The Comelec said the move will help minimize resource wastage and preserve logistical efficiency for election materials.
