MANILA, Philippines — Short-form video sharing platform TikTok has announced new features aimed at enhancing the experience of users, including teenagers and content creators.

Adam Presser, TikTok’s head of operations and trust and safety, said the new features aim to help protect content creators while maximizing their use of the platform.

Among the new features is the Creator Care Mode, which helps creators better filter out offensive and unwanted comments.

“When activated, Creator Care Mode filters all comments identified as offensive, inappropriate or profane as well as comments from users that have previously been reported, deleted or disliked,” Presser said.

“This feature is tailored to the unique experience of a creator. AI (artificial intelligence) learns based on a creator’s own report and delete behavior – so if a creator repeatedly deletes or reports comments, then those kinds of comments are less likely to appear in their comment section,” he added.

TikTok also rolled out a new comment tool for live broadcasts, which allows the host or one of their moderators to enter a keyword,  phrase or emoji that will be prevented from appearing in the chat.

It will also allow creators to mute commenters who previously posted the phrase or who post the phrase in future.

TikTok said it is also testing new features under its Content Check program, which would allow users to verify if their content follows the platform’s community guidelines.

Among these features is the Content Check Lite, which allows creators to check whether their content is eligible for recommendation in the feed and make any necessary changes before they upload it.

Presser said they are also in the early stages of testing a broader Content Check that would allow creators to check their content against the guidelines before it goes live.

“With both features, creators will be able to adjust their content before posting to help ensure it follows our rules, enabling them to safely reach their audiences on TikTok,” he said.
