LPA may bring rain across Luzon, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — Rainy weather is expected in several areas of Luzon and the Visayas in the coming days as a low-pressure area (LPA) lingers over the Philippine Sea east of Catanduanes, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the LPA was located 570 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. While it is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours, its trough is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rains over Quezon, the Bicol Region, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar beginning Tuesday night.
Eastern Visayas may also experience rain from the weather system’s extension, while other parts of the country, including Metro Manila, could see isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
PAGASA noted that the southwest monsoon continues to affect extreme northern Luzon. Areas not influenced by either the LPA or the monsoon may experience generally fair weather with hot and humid conditions during the day, followed by localized thunderstorms.
No gale warning is in effect and sea travel remains generally safe.
