MANILA, Philippines — Filipino youth now prefer work from home arrangements when looking for employment, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.

“We are observing a dynamic shift, where young people are increasingly seeking not just any job, but meaningful work that aligns with evolving global demands,” Labor Undersecretary Carmela Torres reported yesterday.

“This includes a growing interest in flexible work arrangements, digitally driven roles and contributions to sustainable practices,” Torres added.

Thus, Torres said, the government must be flexible and adaptable to the demands of the emerging labor force.

She stressed the need to adapt training and employment strategies to match the ambitions and capabilities of young talents.

The government, she said, must ensure that young people are employment-ready.

The country’s youth labor force is estimated at 6.415 million as of April 2025. Of the number, around 88 percent or 5.67 million are employed.
