GOCCs given deadline on courtesy resignations

MANILA, Philippines —  Officials of government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) have until the end of the week to comply with the Palace order on courtesy resignation.

In a notice, the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) reminded all appointive directors, trustees and members of GOCC governing boards who have yet to submit their courtesy resignations to submit them no later than June 20.

After June 20, a Friday, the GCG said it will submit to the Office of the President a list of all incumbent appointive members of GOCC governing boards, indicating those who have and have not submitted their resignations.

The GCG noted that their current term of office is until June 30.

“Thereafter, all appointees with formal appointments shall be considered in holdover capacity,” the GCG said.

“Those serving in holdover or acting capacity may be replaced at any time by the President, consistent with his appointing authority under the law,” it said.

Based on GCG’s latest list, some 357 officials from 78 GOCCs have submitted their courtesy resignations. There are 117 GOCCs under GCG alone.

It was in end-May when Marcos ordered the inclusion of GOCCs in his administration’s “bold reset.”

GOCCs are agencies organized as a stock or non-stock corporation, vested with functions relating to public needs whether governmental or proprietary in nature.

They are owned by the republic directly or through its instrumentalities.
