Hope for Lupus Exhibit opens to educate, inspire

MANILA, Philippines — With a commitment born of her own health journey, Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar has officially opened the “Hope for Lupus Exhibit” at SM Aura Premier.
Organized by the Hope for Lupus Foundation in partnership with SM Supermalls, the exhibit seeks to demystify lupus – a chronic autoimmune disease impacting over five million people worldwide – and underscore the life-saving importance of early detection.
Diagnosed in her early 20s, Villar endured relentless pain, multiple hospitalizations, and brushes with mortality before channeling her experiences into advocacy.
Her leadership has transformed the Foundation into a platform for patients, families, and medical professionals to connect, learn, and share.
“Lupus changed my life – but it also became a source of purpose,” Villar said.
The exhibit features first-hand accounts from lupus warriors, interactive stations that explain the disease and its early warning signs, and booths manned by rheumatologists and social workers who answer questions about treatment and patient care.
Following its Taguig City debut this week, the Hope for Lupus Exhibit will continue to SM Podium from June 6–8 and conclude at SM City North EDSA from Aug. 22–24.
Each venue provides high foot traffic, ensuring that thousands more will gain critical information about recognizing symptoms early and accessing care.
The Hope for Lupus Foundation extended heartfelt thanks to SM Supermalls for dedicating prominent public spaces to health education.
Under Villar’s stewardship, this traveling exhibit embodies her belief that informed communities and shared stories have the power to change lives and foster hope for everyone touched by lupus.
