Taguig transport hub eyed in 2028

MANILA, Philippines — Over 160,000 passengers are expected to benefit when the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (TCITX) opens its doors in 2028, according to the Department of Transportation.
The DOTr yesterday led the TCITX groundbreaking ceremony after a seven-year delay due to the pandemic and right-of-way issues.
Awarded to Ayala Land Inc. (ALI), the public-private partnership project is expected to be finished by 2027 and fully operational by 2028, the DOTr said.
The P5.2-billion terminal is expected to accommodate 160,000 motorists and 5,200 vehicles daily.
The TCITX will feature a walkway connecting passengers to the North-South Commuter Railway and Metro Manila Subway.
“This project will be instrumental in decongesting major thoroughfares and offering a smoother journey for the riding public,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.
The transport hub will rise at the former site of the Food Terminal Inc., a state-owned corporation sold to ALI in 2012.
“Envisioned to be the gateway from the south of Metro Manila, the TCITX will welcome about 5,200 vehicles composed of provincial busses from Laguna, Batangas and Quezon, as well as city buses and public utility vehicles ready to transport passengers around the metropolis,” said ALI president and CEO Anna Maria Margarita Dy.
Officials also signed yesterday a right-of-way usage agreement for the construction of the 32.7-kilometer Southeast Metro Manila Expressway, spanning from Parañaque to the Batasan Complex in Quezon City.
Signatories were the DOTr, Department of National Defense, Veterans Foundation of the Philippines, Toll Regulatory Board and San Miguel Corp. — Richmond Mercurio
