Delays, cancellations experienced in all airlines — group
MANILA, Philippines — United Filipino Global (UFG) president Gemma Sotto cited the prevalence of flight delays and cancelations among Overseas Filipino Worker travelers in all local and international airline companies.
The group, composed of Filipino civic groups, is an advocate for the welfare of OFWs. Sotto, a former OFW before heading the international alliance, stressed that one airline should not be singled out.
She also encouraged the media to "put things in proper perspective" by recognizing the inadequacies of all airlines amid appeals to investigate budget carrier Cebu Pacific for severe delays and cancellations reported by passengers.
"The trip from the province is delayed for hours. Upon reaching Manila, the connecting flight to the Middle East in another airline is also delayed. It's a long trip; two different airlines both have their flights delayed," Sotto said in Filipino in a release.
Sotto added that another OFW set to fly to Europe has asked her if UFG can help amplify their concerns on flight delays and cancellations.
"Sa totoo lang, nakakainis talaga yang ma-bump-off ka sa flight tapos sumunod na araw ka na nakasakay. Ibang airline na ang pinili. It turned-out pareho lang din pala," Sotto said.
Sotto said that many of these OFWs, through their experiences, have become familiar already with the hassles of delays and cancellations of flights.
"Nasanay na din sila sa paminsan-minsang delays ng flight ng airlines. May konting tiis man mas maganda pa rin kasi swak sa budget ang flight. Dati kasi, sa loob ng dalawa hanggang tatlong taon, isang beses lang sila kayang magbakasyon," said Sotto.
Sotto's group stressed the importance of airline services to OFWs, insisting that the recent discussions about service problems are applicable to all airline companies.
She said UFG will soon release a statement explaining its position on the matter.
