MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos admitted yesterday not finishing a certificate program in economics from the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P).?

The President made the admission in a speech at the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency at Malacañang.

“I thank of course Anthony. Anthony is known to me because we were classmates together. We were studying economics actually, Asia Pacific. But pareho kaming hindi nagtapos (But both of us didn’t finish),” Marcos said, referring to NGCP president and chief executive officer Anthony Almeda.

“But I know him well and I’m happy that he has taken the lead in this,” the President added.

According to Almeda, Marcos was referring to a “special course” at the UA&P.

Marcos’ education became one of the issues during the 2022 presidential campaign.

Based on his profile at the Senate, Marcos received a special diploma in social studies from Oxford University in England.

It also showed that the President enrolled at Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania in 1979.

Marcos served as senator from 2010 to 2016.

In an interview in Tokyo last month, Marcos’ cousin Speaker Martin Romualdez said the President and Japanese Emperor Naruhito reminisced about their good times at Oxford University during their meeting at the Imperial Palace.

Marcos was in Tokyo from Feb. 8 to 12 for an official visit.
