MANILA, Philippines — Addressing the problems caused by the pandemic is not easy, but President Marcos remains committed to improving the quality of life, Malacañang said yesterday following the release of a poll indicating that a majority of Filipinos thinks the country is heading in the right direction.
A nationwide poll by OCTA Research found 85 percent of adult Filipino respondents saying the Philippines is headed in the right direction based on the policies of the government.
Only six percent of the respondents thought otherwise, while nine percent said they did not know the answer or declined to give a response.
Marcos said the results of the survey was “very encouraging.”
“It’s very encouraging that people think we are moving in the right direction. It is important to me because every class of society must feel that they are being served by the government,” Marcos said.
“And with that kind of statistic, it looks like we have at least – we have made the government felt at every level of society. That’s what’s important to me,” he added.
Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil, officer-in-charge of the Office of the Press Secretary, said the results of the survey affirmed that the Marcos administration has been doing the right moves in steering the country toward economic transformation from the slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is not an easy task. And the President is determined and committed to making the lives of all Filipinos better, with programs providing job opportunities and ease in doing business and ensuring food security,” Garafil said in a statement.
“The President’s call for unity and cooperation is as resounding today as his administration works to fulfill his campaign promises to every Filipino, here and abroad,” she said.
Garafil said that those surveyed in the Visayas posted the highest agreement that the Philippines is moving in the right direction, with 91 percent.
The view was also expressed by 87 percent of respondents in Luzon areas outside Metro Manila, 84 percent in Mindanao and 70 percent in Metro Manila.
Among classes A to E, 79 to 86 percent believe the Philippines is on the right path, Garafil said.
