MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Josie was expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility last night or this morning, but may also exit today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said the cyclone, with international name Nanmadol, is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass and will not directly affect the weather condition in the country.

Still, Josie is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over western sections of Southern Tagalog, the Visayas and Mindanao.

The monsoon, or habagat, will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Antique, Aklan, Negros Occidental, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rain can be expected over Oriental Mindoro, rest of Western Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rain.

The cyclone intensified into a typhoon category at 2 p.m. yesterday, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

As of 3 p.m., Joise was spotted 1,670 km east of extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised the public and local disaster officilas to monitor updates relating to the cyclone.
