Philippines to pledge $100,000 to UN’s Yemen Humanitarian Fund
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines will be pledging another $100,000 to the Yemen Humanitarian Fund, the country’s top diplomat said in a Twitter post on Wednesday.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said the pledge will be sourced from the Philippines' International Commitments Fund. The country will be donating the exact same amount it did in 2021.
“The human situation of the proxy war in Yemen long ago reached unspeakable depths. Money cannot be better spent than to this cause,” Locsin said.
@DFAPHL I am pledging in 2022, as I did in 2021, US$100,000 to the Yemen Humanitarian Fund to be sourced from our International Commitments Fund. The human situation of the proxy war in Yemen long ago reached unspeakable depths. Money cannot be better spent than to this cause.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ UN Crisis Relief has labeled the crisis in Yemen as the “worst humanitarian crisis in the world.”
The Yemen Humanitarian Fund or YHF received a total of $96 million in contributions last year. Based on its 2021 report, the top five contributors were Germany with $29 million, the Netherlands with $14.1 million, Canada pitched in $8.6 million, Sweden gave $7.2 million, and Belgium pledged $6.3 million.
Last year, 80 of UN OCHA’s partners were eligible for funding, but only 51 received budgets for their projects.
The YHF funded 106 humanitarian programs last year with a budget of $109 million. The funding was spent on water, sanitation and hygiene programs, for shelter or non-food items, health, and protection, among others.
The agency said 20 international non-governmental organizations received 50% or $54.1 million for 38 projects, 23 national NGOs received $26.7 million for 50 projects, 7 UN agencies received $24 million for 15 projects, and a partner from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society got $4.3 million to fund three projects. — Kaycee Valmonte
