MANILA, Philippines — Voter registration in the National Capital Region and its neighboring provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna, also known as the NCR Plus bubble, is set to resume on Monday.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) director Bartolome Sinocruz Jr. told reporters at a virtual press conference yesterday that the schedule of registration for voters will be from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

President Duterte’s decision to place the NCR Plus bubble back to general community quarantine (GCQ) “with heightened restrictions” allowed Comelec to resume voter registration in these areas, said Sinocruz.

“Recent development showed that the number of COVID-19 cases is on a downward trend. With this development, the commission decided to reopen the registration… in areas under general community quarantine or modified general community quarantine,” Sinocruz said.

The Comelec said that the registration for the 2022 national and local elections will still push through despite the pandemic and conclude as scheduled on Sept. 30, 2021.

The election registration board has recorded 58.9 million registered voters as of April 19, which is close to its pre-pandemic target of 65 million including overseas voters, Sinocruz said.
