DOLE requires bus disinfection per trip
“Buses are considered as an extension of the work place among transport workers like drivers and conductors. So we are also requiring good ventilation. The air should be diluted so if possible, windows opened for at least 15 seconds and there should be disinfection every trip,” Cucueco said, noting that proper ventilation has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of infection.

MANILA, Philippines — To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is requiring the disinfection of public buses on every trip, Labor Assistant Secretary Ma. Teresita Cucueco said yesterday.

Earlier, the DOLE issued guidelines on ventilation to protect the public, including workers, from COVID-19. According to the guidelines, commuters must refrain from talking and eating inside buses, and always wear face masks and face shields.

Violators will face sanctions ranging from P20,000 to P100,000 fine per day until the violation has been corrected.

DOLE said 92 percent of over 71,000 establishments were compliant with COVID-19 prevention and control guidelines.

The department intends to inspect more establishments this year, with companies in construction, transport, business process outsourcing and manufacturing to be prioritized for inspection.
