MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Gen. Archie Gamboa yesterday warned PNP officers to observe courtesy and proper decorum while manning checkpoints to secure community quarantine areas amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Gamboa issued the directive after receiving complaints that some policemen were arrogant when interacting with the public at checkpoints or quarantine control points (QCPs).
“This is a fair warning to all the regional directors and their personnel on QCPs, if we continue to receive reports about being rude and impolite, I will not tolerate it and you shall be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
Being police officers, Gamboa said they must observe courtesy at all times, especially when dealing with women and the elderly, avoid taking photographs of private documents and should always adhere to basic standards of conduct and behavior.
The PNP has over 4,000 QCPs nationwide providing security during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Policemen should also observe courtesy in dealing with health workers and commuters who are riding on buses under the PNP’s Libreng Sakay program.
Over 22,461 health workers and commuters have been served by the 12 buses and troop carriers of the PNP within Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
