MANILA, Philippines — The transportation department has issued guidelines for the aviation industry to ensure that health standards and safe physical distancing are observed during flights.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, spokesman of the government’s task force on the coronavirus pandemic, said the protocols should be observed at all airport facilities and while on board the aircraft.
Under the guidelines, the wearing of face masks and temperature checks in all entrances will be mandatory.
Airlines and airports will be required to install handwashing or sanitizing stations and foot baths and place on-site signages and online information materials on health protocols.
“Physical and social distancing will be implemented strictly in all public places,” Roque said.
Domestic flights from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) resume today as the government eases quarantine restrictions nationwide.
The flights would be limited to areas that have been placed under general community quarantine.
Local government units have to approve the resumption of domestic commercial operations.
Airlines would make inflight announcements on cabin and health security.
To ensure safe physical distancing and minimize physical contact, queuing outside lavatories will not be allowed and cabin crew will guide passengers with carry-on bags.
Cabin crew will distribute alcohol and wipes to all passengers to prevent the spread of virus.
Airlines will also offer simplified meal service and provide only individually sealed bottles.
Brisk cabin presence and the prohibition against congregating on board will be strictly implemented.
Physical distancing among passengers will be maintained although family members and individuals traveling together can be seated next to each other.
If physical distancing cannot be guaranteed, passengers and crew should comply with all the other preventive measures like strict hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and wearing of face masks.
Safe physical distancing will also be observed during the disembarkation of passengers and the claiming of baggage at carousels. Richmond Mercurio
