MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Cathedral is extending its assistance to couples who are set to wed in churches affected by the erupting Taal Volcano.

Manila Cathedral announced Thursday that slots have been opened for January and February.

“For weddings scheduled in January and February 2020 in Cavite and Batangas area affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano, we are extending assistance to those who wish to transfer their wedding to the Manila Cathedral,” the cathedral’s Twitter post read.

It added: “A personal visit to the cathedral office will be helpful for us to assist you with the process.”

Interested couples may visit Manila Cathedral Office, which is open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They may also call (02) 8 527-3093.

State seismologists have warned since Sunday that Taal Volcano—a popular tourist attraction set in a picturesque lake—could let loose a hazardous explosive eruption in “hours or days.”

A layer of fine volcanic ash has blanketed houses, farmlands, churches and establishments in parts of Batangas and Cavite since Taal burst to life Sunday afternoon, forcing thousands of families to evacuate. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
