'Ineng' gains speed; Signal No. 2 over Batanes, Babuyan

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is up over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands as Severe Tropical Storm Ineng moves west northwest PAGASA said in its weather bulletin on Friday afternoon.

Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Northern Abra and Ilocos Norte are meanwhile under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

PAGASA said "Ineng" was 330 kilometers east southeast of Basco, Batanes on Friday afternoon and moving at 25 kilometers per hour, up from 20 kph earlier Friday. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph, the weather bureau also said.

"'Ineng'remains less likely to make landfall in the country. However, it will be closest to Batanes Province tomorrow morning. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow evening," PAGASA also said.

It said moderate to heavy rains can be expected in the following areas on Friday night:

  • Batanes
  • Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands)
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Apayao
  • Kalinga
  • Abra

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains will meanwhile affect the following areas:

  • Metro Manila
  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Batangas
  • Rizal
  • Mindoro Occidental
  • Mindoro Oriental
  • Northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian and Cuyo Islands)
  • Aklan
  • Antique
  • Western portion of Iloilo 
  • The rest of Ilocos Region
  • Cordillera Administrative Region
  • Cagayan Valley
