Magnitude 6.2 quake rocks Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — A strong earthquake measuring magnitude 6.2 yesterday shook parts of Mindanao but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake, which occurred at 6:12 p.m., was centered approximately 75 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso municipality, Davao Oriental.

It was reportedly felt at Intensity 5 – classified as strong – in Mati City; Intensity 4 in Davao City and General Santos City; and Intensity 2 in Bislig City.

Phivolcs warned the public of possible aftershocks.

Earlier in the day, a magnitude 3.5 quake jolted parts of Samar.

The quake struck 55 kilometers northeast of Gamay, Northern Samar at 8:09 a.m.

It was reportedly felt at Intensity 3 in Gamay, Northern Samar and Intensity 2 in Arteche, Eastern Samar.
