MANILA, Philippines — In what could be a reference to the ongoing territorial dispute between the Philippines and China, Marvel’s new Filipina superhero will have a tense encounter with a Chinese counterpart in the upcoming comic book series “War of the Realms.”

Filmmaker and comic book writer Greg Pak yesterday shared a teaser for Marvel’s “War of the Realms: Agents of Atlas #1” that is expected to be released next week.

It featured Filipina superhero Pearl Pangan, also known as Wave, who investigates “something wrong” in the waters in the north Pacific.

She encounters Chinese superhero Lei Ling, also known as Aero, who confronts her with being outside her territory in the Philippine sea.

Wave retorts, saying the area is not part of Chinese waters.

A tremor interrupts the confrontation, with Aero saying she went to the area to investigate a disturbance in the wind.

An unidentified character, who appears from the sea, later attacks the two superheroes after Wave tries to part the waters to investigate further.

Other characters also featured in the teasers released by Pak, include Cindy Moon (Silk), Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Kung-Fu Master Shang Chi, Amadeus Cho (Brawn) and Atlas leader Jimmy Woo.

War of the Realms: Agents of Atlas #1 is slated to be released on May 8.

Filipino Twitter users were among those who had the most number of posts about “Avengers: Endgame,” which has become the most tweeted movie in history.

Twitter said the Philippines was in third spot among countries that tweeted the most about Avengers: Endgame, following the United States and Brazil.

Completing the top 10 were Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Indonesia and France.

The social media platform said Avengers: Endgame, the 22nd installment in the Marvel cinematic universe, became the most tweeted movie ever with more than 50 million tweets this year,

Half of those were posted in the past week after the worldwide release of the movie.

Among characters, Twitter said villain Thanos was the most tweeted, followed by Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Loki, Spiderman, Black Widow, Groot and Nebula.
