MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has opened the Aringay-Tubao Alternate Road and Anduyan Bridge in La Union that would cut travel time to Baguio City by one hour.

The opening of these roads would provide a better and faster road network for motorists going to Benguet and Baguio City.

“This alternate route will lessen travel time from Tuba, La Union to Benguet from two hours to 35 minutes and will cut travel time from two hours to just one hour going to Baguio City,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villar in a statement.

He added that the project will decongest traffic along Marcos Highway, especially since Kennon Road is closed and it is prone to landslides.

The alternate road is a 14.24-kilometer section along Aringay-Tubao, La Union that would facilitate a scenic travel to Asin Hot Spring in Tuba, Benguet and Baguio City.

Among those who would benefit from the completion of the Anduyan Bridge are those residing at Barangay Rizal and Alog East in Tubao, La Union since they no longer have to use a raft to cross to the other side of the Aringay River.

The two-lane Anduyan Bridge has 12 spans with 30-meter prestressed concrete girders with a total length of 360-lineal meters.

Villar also announced that they have opened the 7.99-kilometer Laoag City Bypass in Ilocos Norte that would cut travel time from 45 minutes to 10 minutes, thus help ease the flow of traffic in the area.
