Comelec releases 148 'initial' senatorial candidates for 2019 midterm elections

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 148 individuals comprise the initial list of senatorial bets for the May 2019 midterm polls, a report of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed yesterday.
The number is four less than the 152 aspirants who submitted their certificates of candidacy (COCs) to the Comelec for senator.
Removed were Vivian Moreno of Akbayan Party and independent bets Robel dela Cruz, Carmelo Carreon and Alan Maco.
According to Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, the four individuals have already withdrawn their COCs.
Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10420, the list was made public “for purposes of checking the name to appear on the official ballot.”
The Comelec has asked the COC filers to validate their names and other information on the ballots.
The COC filers can see the “tentative” list at Comelec website – http://bwww.comelec.gov.ph/?r=2019NLE/ListsOfCandidates
The poll body had also released the tentative list of candidates for party-lists, governors, vice governors, provincial board members, mayors, vice mayors and councilors.
Under the plan, the printing of official ballots will start in January next year.
