MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the appointment paper of Nicanor Faeldon as the new Bureau of Corrections chief, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.

The Justice chief told reporters on Tuesday that Faeldon’s appointment papers are “ready for release by the executive secretary.”

But Guevarra said that he could not be certain on when the document would be made public.

Guevarra said that Faeldon "wants to take his oath" before him on Wednesday, and that the latter may assume his post at the BuCor after.

The Justice secretary on October 12 announced that Duterte picked Faeldon to head the BuCor, an agency under the DOJ.

Almost a month later, Guevarra said that Faeldon has yet to report for work.

Faeldon’s camp clarified last November 12 that the former military man has yet to report to the BuCor as there “was/is no appointment to speak of.”

The BuCor director general post is Faeldon’s third appointment in the Duterte administration.

The post was vacated by Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, who filed his certificate of candidacy for senator last month at the Commission on Elections.

He was appointed as BuCor chief in 2016, but he resigned in December 2017 amid the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that slipped past the bureau, under his helm.

The president, upon accepting his resignation, said: "From the tone of his resignation, he's very disappointed but I really believe he is an honest man."

Duterte also hinted that the "government would need Faeldon."

The president re-appointed Faeldon as deputy administrator of the Office of the Civil Defense, under the Department of National Defense.
