MANILA, Philippines — Unlike some nominees or appointees, Sen. Gregorio Honasan is expected to breeze through the Commission on Appointments (CA) on his new post as secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

“It’s a tradition that a member of Congress is confirmed immediately when appointed to the executive department,” Isabela Rep. Rodito Albano III, a former CA majority leader, maintained.

He welcomed the appointment of Honasan, saying his “wide experience, skills and sound judgment” will help push policies that will benefit Filipinos.

Albano said it was a “good decision” on the part of President Duterte.

“I am confident that he will be a big asset to the administration by championing policies and programs that are beneficial to the Filipino people especially now with the entry of a provisional new major player in the telecommunications industry,” he said.
